Business procedures are the key to any well oiled and high performing business. Multi-national companies know this and proceed to develop highly developed processes. While you don't need the expensive in depth procedures that they use, it is important that you have procedures for your own online business. We'll cover the steps for implementing these below.
First off, you are going to need to know how to do the procedure you want repeated. You may have been doing it for months or it may be something entirely new to you. Either way, you must know it and know it well enough that you can explain it to someone else.
Next, you are going to write down all the steps to the procedure. I suggest that you use a numbered list and that you keep the steps in their correct order. Only use command words: shall, is required to, should, will and must. Avoid weak words that give options: optionally, can, and may. Ensure that you can follow the steps that you have written down.
Third, add a visual presentation of the procedure. If the procedure takes place on a computer use Camtasia Studio or CamStudio to record you going through the steps. Make sure you inform the person who will be listening of what you are doing at each step for clarity. If the procedure is not performed on a computer, then add pictures or illustrations to the written instructions.
The last step is to continuously improve the procedure. Get feedback from those who are using the procedure to see how it can be improved or updated. Once you have the feedback, update the procedure. The more times that your procedures go through the feedback cycle, the better they will become.
